Quote of the day

When Ellen DeGeneres announced on her talk show in May that she would soon be marrying her girlfriend, Portia de Rossi, the crowd in the studio went wild. On Saturday, two months after the state of California began issuing marriage licenses to gay couples, DeGeneres and de Rossi finally got hitched in their Beverly Hills, Calif., backyard, wearing Zac Posen and exchanging vows they wrote themselves.

Reports from the 19 guests in attendance are scarce, but one witness gave the Chicago Sun-Times our quote of the day:

''I only wished someone from one of those anti-gay marriage groups could have witnessed the great outpouring of love and respect between Ellen and Portia. Then, they might better understand that love is not about gender ... it's about two people who are totally dedicated to each other and their relationship.''

We're glad for Ellen and Portia's sake that no one from those anti-gay-marriage groups crashed the celebration, but otherwise, we second that emotion. Congrats to the happy couple!
