I'm thrilled to offer as an exclusive download this preview of the title track from the hotly anticipated "Prospect Hummer" EP, a collaboration between acclaimed experimental band the Animal Collective and Vashti Bunyan, whose sole record, 1969's "Just Another Diamond Day," is cultishly revered by Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom and other leading lights of the wonderful but unfortunately named "freak folk" scene. It is music formed of fleeting, incomplete thoughts and half-formed, tip-of-the-mind reminiscences, barely holding together, but glimmering with strange beauty. Bunyan's voice is as clear and clean and studiedly naive as ever, almost a parody of the English folkie sprite sound, and her lyrics ("Your cat is a friendly bother/ Whod offer his heart with allegiance/ And if he could talk wed be best friends/ The only friend he has is his food") are a delight.
