Series

Bartlet has to deal with a hostage crisis in Colombia as well as the wrath of the first lady on a rerun of The West Wing (8 p.m. EST/10 p.m. PST, NBC). Malcolm has to go to work for an ill-tempered senior citizen as punishment for accidentally breaking her arm on a rerun of Malcolm in the Middle (8 p.m., Fox). Dawson's Creek (8 p.m., WB) repeats the one where Pacey reacts strangely to his impending birthday. On a rerun of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (9 p.m., WB), Uncle Spike comes to the rescue when Dawn freaks out over learning that she's the Key. The new drama series The Beast (10 p.m., ABC) premieres. Frank Langella stars as a Murdochian media magnate who runs a sensationalistic 24-hour cable news network and also feels the need to put his staff on a round-the-clock webcam. With Jason Gedrick, Elizabeth Mitchell and Peter Riegert.

Specials

Lee Ann Womack hosts the Country Weekly Music Awards (8 p.m., Nashville Network), which sounds as if it gives out awards weekly, and maybe it does. Fans voted by phone and online to determine the winners. Performers include Brad Paisley, Jewel, Jo Dee Messina, Lonestar and SheDaisy, among others.
